DESCRIPTION OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM
General Objective
To train graduates of the highest academic and professional quality in chemical engineering and related fields, capable of undertaking research to generate new knowledge and technological developments which contribute to the solution of issues of national interest.
Specific Objectives
- To establish an adequate academic and infrastructural framework for the teaching of engineering.
- To generate research projects for the development of basic knowledge and its applications.
- To generate projects that innovatively apply knowledge and develop technology.
- To actively participate in the dissemination of scientific and technological knowledge of chemical engineering.
- To promote links with local and national industry.
- To promote quality professional practice in engineering and related fields.

Graduate Profile
The profile of the Chemical Engineering graduate must be in line with development trends in this field of knowledge for the 21st Century worldwide.
Industry development with a technological basis derived from this new knowledge offers a field of development for the chemical engineer, and their university education will allow them to participate in this development, looking to increase the country’s productivity and fairly distribute the wealth generated.
The areas in which the future development of Chemical Engineering is foreseen in the 21st Century are, among others, the following:
- Development of new materials.
- Use of renewable energies and efficient use of energy.
- Treatment and recovery of effluents.
- Ecological control.
- Biotechnology.
- Process simulation and control.
In order to contribute to the development of the areas mentioned above, graduates of this postgraduate degree must be able to:
- Handle basic engineering and application principles which will allow them to thrive in the fields of technology analysis, creation and adaptation.
- Develop the skill of analysis and identifying areas of technological processes amenable to innovation.
- Use the technical-scientific language needed to communicate with the productive and social sector, and the scientific community, in order to implement research and development programs in a coordinated fashion.
- Collaborate with professionals from other fields in the implementation of projects and problem solving in an interdisciplinary way.
- Efficiently develop research activities, as well as application, teaching and dissemination of scientific knowledge. Specifically, the graduate must be able to carry out, in each of these areas, the following activities:

HOW DO I ENROLL IN THIS GRADUATE PROGRAM?
Entrance Requirements
To enter the Doctorate in Engineering Science: Chemical Engineering program, applicants must:
1. Submit an entrance application, free-format curriculum vitae with supporting documentation, 3 letters of recommendation, doctoral research draft project approved by the possible thesis director and letter of acceptance of the possible thesis director.
2. Present a copy of Master’s professional degree and grade transcript with official grade average.
3. Submit an original or certified copy of birth certificate.
4. Provide proof of knowledge of English language: TOEFL (score of at least 450) or equivalent document.
5. Attend an interview with the selection committee, in which the thesis draft project will be presented and defended.
Applicant Profile
Applicants to the postgraduate degree in the field of Chemical Engineering must have, preferably, a Degree in Chemical Engineering. Applicants with a master’s degree in related fields may be accepted if, in the Academic Commission’s view, these applicants fulfill the academic requirements of admission to the program.
For the doctorate program, applicants must fulfill a profile that shows skills and a vocation for scientific research and the generation of new knowledge, as well as commitment to scientific work. The evaluation of the required attributes for admission to the Doctorate Program will be performed as per the evaluation guide.
WHAT DO I NEED TO GRADUATE?
Graduation Requirements
To obtain the doctorate degree, the student must:
- Successfully complete all course credits and satisfy the other requirements established in the corresponding graduate program.
- Certify comprehension of a language other than Spanish, as established by the Graduate Academic Committee of the respective study program.
- Pass the degree examination in the written and oral phase before an ex-professo appointed committee.
- For the doctorate degree, pass a general knowledge exam, if established in the postgraduate program.
- Comply with the provisions and requirements established by the Department of Academic Services for the issuance of the degree.
Degree Options
To obtain the degree, the student must cover the credits corresponding to the postgraduate study plan, write and pass their written thesis, and pass the degree examination, which consists of the oral defense of the thesis before a committee designated by the Postgraduate Academic Commission.
Students with at least two articles published and/or accepted for publication within the 8 semesters of the program, will have the option to present said articles as their written document to be defended in the oral phase of the degree examination.
