DESCRIPTION OF THE DEGREE PROGRAM
General Objective
To develop nursing specialists in the area of management and teaching with professional skills that allow them to plan, organize, coordinate and control administrative processes in public and private healthcare institutions, who contribute to problem solving or seizing opportunities for the comprehensive healthcare of individuals and communities.
Specific Objectives
- Apply strategic planning as a tool to design feasible remedy proposals in order to prevent and address the issue of healthcare management and thus increase the productivity and efficiency of nursing services.
- Carry out comprehensive diagnoses of nursing services, aimed at detecting and prioritizing issues, opportunities and risks in healthcare management, to implement programs and/or projects aimed at intervening in the detected situation with the methodological support of the administrative process.
- Carry out research in the healthcare or service management area, which leads to quality nursing care and the efficient use of resources.
- Develop skills to identify organizational culture factors and their relationship to the work environment in order to plan, implement and evaluate programs in order to transform various organizational structures.
- Develop a leadership attitude for the management of nursing services with a strategic perspective that guarantees quality in the application of core organizational processes for healthcare management.
- Include knowledge to sustain the teaching-learning process, by analyzing concepts, principles, elements, methods and objectives, in order to apply them to benefit the population, and in educational nursing programs.
- Contribute to the ongoing education of nursing professionals to improve the quality, safety and satisfaction of nursing service users.
- Develop educational nursing projects that comply with the requirements of health institutions, as well as professional and social needs.
- Empower nursing managerial personnel to train and update healthcare personnel at the different education levels, in accordance with national requirements and institutional objectives.

Graduate Profile
Graduates with the Specialization in Nursing Management and Teaching (EDGE, acronym in Spanish) will be capable of:
- Demonstrating a high level of skill and ability for the application of the administrative process in healthcare institutions.
- Demonstrating the ability to apply the teaching-learning process in the nursing field.
- Using strategic planning as a tool to form comprehensive diagnoses and remedy proposals in the work environments they participate in.
- Pursuing their creative leadership potential through individual and group motivation of individuals in order to make their best participation effort in the course of their duties.
- Designing, developing and evaluating healthcare, education and health promotion projects and programs, based on market studies applied to the work environment where their professional activity occurs, based on the principles, and bioethical, humanistic and ethical values of the profession.

HOW DO I ENROLL IN THIS GRADUATE PROGRAM?
Entrance Requirements
Applicants will deliver originals and two copies of the following documents:
- Undergraduate Nursing Diploma.
- Undergraduate Nursing Professional License.
- Transcripts of Undergraduate degree studies, with a minimum grade average of 80 on a scale of 0 to 100.
- Get 1000 points on the National Graduate School Admissions Exam (EXANI-III).
- Recently issued birth certificate.
- Health certificate, issued by an official health institution, recent (no more than 30 days old)
- Official proof of at least two years of professional experience.
- Two letters of recommendation from renowned professionals from people they have worked with.
- Executive summary of curriculum vitae, documenting the past two years.
- Certificate for reading comprehension of texts in English (TOEFL ITP, 480 points)
- Letter of full-time commitment to studying (if awarded the CONACyT scholarship).
- Pass the preparation course with a minimum grade of 80 on a scale of 0 to 100.
- Three recent black and white 3.5 X 2 cm photographs.
- Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) enlarged by 200%.
In the case of admission requests where revalidation, equivalence or change of studies is required, the provisions of Chapter XIII of the University of Sonora Graduate Studies Regulations will be applied.
Selection Process and Criteria
- Complete the selection process admission request.
- Submit a statement of purpose regarding admission to the program, addressed to the program coordinator
- Have an interview with the Graduate Academic Committee.

WHAT DO I NEED TO GRADUATE?
Graduation Requirements
To obtain the specialist certificate, students must:
- Successfully complete all course credits and satisfy the other requirements established in the corresponding graduate program.
- Successfully pass the exam for the speciality in its written and oral components before a committee named ex-professo, and
- Comply with the provisions and requirements established by the Department of Academic Services for the issuance of the corresponding specialist certificate.
Degree Options
Article 64 of the University of Sonora Graduate Studies Regulations states that graduates of postgraduate programs may choose between the different options to obtain the degree, as established in said Regulations, as well as other options stipulated in the respective plan and program, and approved by the Academic Board.
The degree option chosen by students shall be submitted orally and in writing, as established in Articles 65, 66 and 67 of Chapter XII of the University of Sonora Graduate Studies Regulations. The written phase consists of submitting a report or document according to the chosen degree option. The oral phase is the presentation and defense of the thesis before a committee comprised of 3 members, as dictated by Article 68 of the Regulations.
The Intensive Care Nursing Program (EGDE), with professional orientation, offers students the following options for obtaining the degree, which will be carried out individually:
- Thesis
- Minor Thesis
- Final Project or Administrative Assessment

Enrollment and tuition fees
Pursuant to the Fee Regulation, at the time they enroll in one of the University of Sonora’s graduate degree programs, students must pay all corresponding fees based on the current minimum wage in the city of Hermosillo. Infrastructure Fee
The infrastructure fee is: $8,000 each semester.
